Presumably you are in search for an alternative for the function SSasymp, right? To my knowledge, there is no alternative for this case.

You have to define your own exponential model, for example, with the following formula: a * exp(b * x)

Before you can fit your model, you need to specify startup parameters for a and b. Have a look at John Fox’ paper.
Fit < - nls(y ~ a*exp(b*x), start = list(a=1, b=1))
